FarmBioNet Releases New Video – How to plant a hedgerow with farmer Kim McCall

How to plant a hedgerow

FarmBioNet is pleased to announce the release of a new video that shares practical knowledge and good practices relating to planting hedgerows with farmer Kim McCall.

Hedgerows structure the landscape, connect natural habitats and create wildlife corridors. When properly planted and cared for, they provide food, shelter, breeding, and hibernation sites for a wide range of species, while also enhancing the resilience of farming systems.Beyond their ecological value, hedgerows offer agronomic benefits. They support natural pest control and pollination, protect soils from erosion, help regulate water, and provide field boundaries giving structure and beauty to the landscape. Together, these benefits make hedgerows an important nature-based solution for productive and resilient farming systems.

About FarmBioNet

FarmBioNet is a three-year Horizon Europe project, running from January 2025 to December 2027, focused on promoting biodiversity-friendly farming practices across Europe. The project aims to foster knowledge exchange among farmers, foresters, researchers, advisors, and other key stakeholders. At the core of FarmBioNet is the establishment of a European Network encompassing a variety of farming and biodiversity National Networks. These networks will facilitate the exchange of both traditional and evidence-based actions that promote biodiversity on farms.

FarmBioNet established 12 Farming and Biodiversity National Networks and an EU-wide Thematic Network to connect farmers, foresters, researchers, advisors and other Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation Systems actors. The project facilitates peer-to-peer learning and knowledge exchange opportunities through workshops and farm visits. Through multi-actor engagement and the development of practical tools, it is supporting practitioners to implement Biodiversity-Friendly Farming practices.
