Which areas will be in focus?

Farmland in Natura 2000 sites, the largest network of protected areas in the world, where biodiversity-friendly practices are essential to maintaining key habitats. Spanning over 27,000 sites across all 27 EU member states, Natura 2000 covers more than 18% of the EU’s land and around 9% of its marine area. Farmers in these areas often face economic challenges and misunderstandings about conservation measures, making it difficult to sustain practices that protect biodiversity. Voluntary incentives frequently fail to cover the costs, leading to the abandonment of these vital systems. FarmBioNet will facilitate Europe-wide knowledge exchange on Natura 2000 sites, focusing on climate change, adaptation, and soil health.

FarmBioNet is dedicated to bridging the knowledge gap between biodiversity and agriculture, aiming to promote
Biodiversity-Friendly Farming (BFF) practices across Europe.
